He is Head of the Strategy & Policy team at renewable energy technology firm 3E and research associate at the School of Transnational Governance of the European University in Florence. He is also a member of the boards of Belgian rail infrastructure management company Infrabel, and the Fine Arts center BOZAR.
Cornillie is currently looking at the integration of digital with renewable energy technologies in order to realize the smart energy systems needed for a net zero world. He is advising companies and governments on the implementation of the Paris Agreement, including the adoption of clean tech, the innovation in renewable powered technologies and attractivity for sustainable finance.
He has 18 years of experience in public policy and governance, negotiating at the highest level of government, working intensively with all major national and international stakeholders and managing several ministerial cabinets and policy units. The first half of his career was devoted to energy, transport and environment policy, as consultant for Oxford Economic Research Associates and as chief of cabinet of several Belgian transport ministers. From 2008 onwards, his scope widened to broader European socio-economic policy questions, as chief of cabinet of a Belgian vice prime minister and policy director of a political party. Here he was in charge of energy, competition and consumer protection policies. Cornillie negotiated two governments and the 6th Belgian state reform and took part in discussions with the European Commission, the IMF and the OECD on the Belgian national reform plans.
